"LEOP-BIRD"
|
The animal I created is a winged leopard and it is my aspirational teacher symbol. Leopards are known for their agility and are the strongest of the big cats. The name “leopard” comes from the Greek word leopardus, which is a combination of leon (lion) and pardus (panther). I have a fascination with leopards because of their spotted fur patterns.
My husband and I have animal symbols—he is the husband tiger and I’m the wife leopard. We have tiger and leopard pens which were used at our wedding to sign our guestbook and pillows embroidered with a tiger and a leopard on our bed. Leopard spots are bold, and I’d like to have more courage to be bold and make an impact as a teacher. I’m naturally a bit clumsy and sometimes I speak too slowly and I’d like to be more agile and communicate more effectively like the great teachers I admire. I added the wings to my creature because I’d always like to have creative freedom in my role as an art educator. Also, ever since I was a little kid, I’ve had recurring vivid dreams that I was able to fly and those dreams were and still are my favorite. My winged leopard has a friendly face because I’d always want my students to see me as approachable and supportive. I used TinkerCAD to build the creature. Although I didn't find an option to add in spots on the animal, TinkerCAD was very easy to use and I can see middle school and high school students enjoying using this program. |
