Impressionism was a style of art popular in the 19th century. Surrealism began around the 1920's. Graffiti art was a big hit in the 1980's and '90's. What type of art is popular today? (Hint: it's not too difficult to "unveil", as we see it on everyone's faces out in public nowadays.) Very interesting read. Although many may feel that wearing a face mask has taken away our sense of individuality—-I feel the complete opposite! Masks are definitely the new form of self-expression and can actually reveal a lot about your personality based on your mask of choice. They are the new “accessories” and have changed the way we look at ourselves and how we view others. I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I hope that masks are here to stay even after the pandemic is over! I find them to be quite the fashion statement and it also keeps my face warm during winter.

Very interesting read. Fascinated with how artists have found a way to intertwine social, health and political events. Years later one will be able to view these renderings and know exactly was happening in the world at that moment - it’s like reading a history book.

Love how artists are taking this unprecedented time in our lives and connecting to it and the moment. The connection to what we’re all feeling and the expression these artist are projecting is giving a voice to the pandemic through an artistic eye and point of view. Maybe masks are here to stay or maybe we’ll discontinue use of them once we have a vaccine but I think the artist have definitely captured a moment in time perfectly.

Great article! I loved seeing all the examples of the work and reading about the creativity behind it. It's interesting how much a mask can change everything. In the article it talked about the mask as a symbol of censorship and separation, but also care and protection. It also became a political symbol as well. It's interesting to see how an object can be represented and how people view it depending on their own personal experiences. Great article! Thank you for sharing!

This article was such a fun collection of what's going on with the art all around us. It's cool to see how so many have been able to make light of the situation and stay creative! It was cool to see artists I'm familiar with like Tanaka and Banksy taking part in pieces surrounding the now everyday masks around us. I'm curious if these incorporations of mask art will aid in defining this period of art for the future to examine.

Times I’ve never seen in my 66 years. Is this the future? Hopefully not. One pandemic is enough

Such a beautiful way to turn the negativity/inconvenience of the mask into a positive outlook. I’m so curious to read how this will all be depicted in my children’s history books in 10+ yrs

This was a fun read! The mask has really been showing up in art stretching across many mediums. I love the idea of adding it to famous works of art, and also how artists have been customizing masks with their own artwork. The mask even shows up in conceptual art (I think of the woman with the piece of lettuce over her face). The mask is so prevalent in day-to-day life, and so unavoidable, it makes sense that we would reflect on this phenomenon through art

It's interesting to see how in the beginning of the year, masks people wore were more plain and basic-- serving as pure function for safety and protection. Now at the end of the same year, they are now a part of people's self expression like an article of clothing and it's a lot more common to see fashion masks.
